Now making this delicious recipe (trust me on this!) is absolutely very easy. You start by seasoning the beef, which is the base of your tortilla. I kept it fairly simple with garlic, onion and chipotle, but you can add all kinds of flavors you like

  • ground beef
  • chipotle (in adobo sauce is my favorite
  • garlic – you can use either fresh garlic or ground garlic powder
  • onion – again you can use fresh onion or onion powder
  • cheddar cheese – or another cheese you like
  • tortilla’s
  • avocado
  • jalapeno
  • creme fraiche
Ingredients for smashed tortilla burger

Making the smashed tortilla burger

You start by seasoning the ground beef. once that is done you spread 1/4 of the beef on one tortilla side. Make a thin layer of ground beef and heat a large skillet with some olive oil. Now press the tortilla down in the hot pan with the beef side down. Use a spatula or similar to press it down while cooking so the beef browns nicely and cooks through.

Now flip it so the beef side is facing up and spread a generous layer of cheese on top of the beef. Now let the cheese melt and in the meantime preparing your toppings.

Again I kept it simple here with avocado, onion, jalapeno and creme fraiche but you can use whatever your favorite burger toppings are. In fact the whole family can have their own favorite toppings to go on the smashed tortilla burger. Once the cheese is melted you can do whatever you like with it.

It’s a pretty easy dinner recipe and pretty much the ultimate comfort food if you ask. I can see why it has gone viral with that delicious crispy tortilla! Serve it with fresh cilantro and whatever your favorite sauce is!
