Easy croissant waffles recipe (croffles)

Delicious and easy to make are these croissant waffles!

Probably the easiest waffles to make are these delicious croissant waffles. You make them by using unbaked croissants or more specifically unbaked croissant dough. It’s sometimes also known as crescent roll dough but I think you get the idea right? So this is my favorite recipe for an easy croffle recipe.

Crispy croissant waffles

These croissant waffles actually came about by accident. I had a can of premade croissant dough lying around and wanted to do something different with it than the usual croissants. You should be able to get the dough at the grocery store.

So I decided to get out my waffle iron and try to make some sort of croissant waffles. And, you guessed it, they worked out really well! They were nice and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I’m going to do this more often! That’s for sure. If you don’t have any crescent dough sheets or croissant waffle dough lying around you can also do the same with puff pastry dough. Although I did not test this myself, but since croissants are essentially made from puff pastry dough I’m guessing that should definitely work.

Experiment

Now the fun part about making these croissant waffles (you guessed that would be croffles for short right?) is that you can vary with them very easily. Since you don’t need to make any batter yourself, it’s a matter of getting it into the right shape, heating your waffle iron and slap it on. Bake until golden brown and your croissant waffles are finished. But you can also vary with different fillings and toppings.

croissant waffles

For example, I made waffles filled with vanilla sugar and topped with red fruit and lime curd. But a savory croffle is as good a try as well. I’ve made one with peanut butter which was delicious. Even better with a bit of banana on top. Perfect for busy mornings or as a sweet snack.

Or, of course, a chocolate spread filling (if you know me at all, you know I love chocolate spread) with a banana topping. And once I got the hang of it, I made croissant waffles filled with aged cheese and topped with tomatoes, black pepper, and avocado. Because yeah, my boyfriend just doesn’t have as much of a sweet tooth as I do and he likes his waffles to be savory!

Filling

Filling the waffles might take a little more explanation. You take a ready-made croissant dough. Press the perforated lines closed (use your fingers to do this), because you don’t want the filling to spill out. Cut a rectangle out of the dough, about the “waffle size” of your waffle iron.

If you are going to fill the waffles, make sure to make the dough slice a little bit longer. Then you can place half of the filling and fold the other half over it. Press the edges together to make sure the filling stays in the waffles. And then bake! Don’t forget to use a bit of cooking spray on your toaster though. You don’t want it all to stick to the plates. Baking takes just a couple of minutes.

Recipe

This recipe can hardly be called a recipe. But it is definitely worth a try! See below how to make these easy, quick, crunchy croissant waffles. In this version we used: raspberries and maple syrup. Yum! Sweet croffles will always be my favorite I guess. If you have leftover croffles you could use those for making a bread pudding. I’m not a fan of reheating the homemade croffles as they don’t reheat all that well. You could use a toaster oven to reheat or the air fryer but they will be less crunchy than they were the day before. And because they are so easy to make I tend to go for making them fresh. Perfect quick breakfast.

Toppings

Some of my favorite toppings are melted chocolate(from chocolate chips), fresh fruit, icing sugar, a little sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or a more savory option by adding cream cheese and smoked salmon. O and let’s not forget ice cream!

Love waffle recipes?

If you have a waffle machine you might want to make waffles all the time. Sometimes using a regular waffle batter and sometimes going for the easy hack by using this store-bought croissant dough.

Croissant waffles (croffles)

Prep time 5 minutes
Cooking time 5 minutes
Total time 10 minutes
Servings6 croissants

Ingredients

  • 1 can croissant dough crescent rolls
  • Fruit of your choice such as raspberries
  • Topping of your choice such as maple syrup

Equipment

  • Waffle maker

How to make croissant waffles

  1. Heat and grease your waffle iron.
  2. Roll out the croissant dough on a cutting board. Pinch the perforated edges. Cut into slices that will fit in your waffle iron.
  3. You may choose to fill the croissant waffle. If you do, make sure to cut the dough a little larger so you can fill it and fold it in half before placing it in the waffle iron.
  4. Place the croissant dough in the waffle iron and cook until the waffles are golden brown.
  5. Remove the waffles from the iron (they will still be a little soft, but will soon be crispy) and garnish with the fruit of your choice. I chose raspberries and maple syrup. Enjoy!
