Broccoli stir fry with beef
It is no secret that I am a fan of broccoli. My favorite is still roasted broccoli with hazelnuts, but this is a close second. When I don’t feel like cooking, I usually make dishes like this broccoli and beef stir fry. It’s on the table in about 20 minutes, which I find perfectly acceptable when I don’t feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen. It’s perfectly delicious on it’s own but you can also serve it as a side dish.
The nutritional value of broccoli is amazing, so you can definitely call it a superfood. In any case, no reason not to serve it often. Especially when it’s as quick and easy as this stir-fried broccoli.
Ingredients for Broccoli stir fry
To make preparing this dish a bit easier I do quickly boil the broccoli. That way I prevent the broccoli from having to spend too much time in the pan. This only takes a few minutes, but you can be sure that the broccoli is well cooked. An alternative – if you are only using one pan – is to add a little water to the wok and then steam for a while with the lid on. I find this takes longer, so I prefer to pre-cook the broccoli.
For this broccoli stir fry recipe you will need the following ingredients. It’s a pretty easy recipe but you can add additional flavors to it if you want to.
- fresh broccoli florets – I do find that an entire head of broccoli is usually just barely enough for two people so make sure you get enough as it does reduce a bit.
- steak – for the beef I choose a nice steak but if you prefer you can swap for chicken
- spring onions
- sesame seeds
- coconut aminos or soy sauce
- olive oil or sesame oil
- fish sauce
- ginger
- garlic
For making the broccoli stir fry you need a large skillet or a wok. I first mix the ingredients for the stir fry sauce in a small bowl. I’ve prepped the broccoli so it’s ready to be added to the wok and the beef really needs just a few minutes to cook through.
Additions and variations
While this is a super simple recipe you can change the flavors by adding some bell peppers or swapping out the sauces with something like oyster sauce or hoisin sauce. Those are usually a little sweeter but work really well with this recipe as well. You can serve the broccoli stir fry with rice.
