Thai basil chicken

This dish was made by Charlotte and I after she just came back from a trip to beautiful Thailand. During the trip she also took part in a cooking class and one of the dishes made was this easy Thai basil chicken. So once home, she wanted to recreate a homestyle version of this delicious dish and here it is!

Now the most crucial part of the dish is the Thai basil. As you might have guessed from the title of Thai basil chicken. Thai basil is a mix of regular sweet basil and mint. It has a subtle mint flavor and combined with the basil flavor, I absolutely love it. That said, you might not be able to find it in the regular grocery store.

Asian grocery store

I usually find this particular herb in the Asian grocery store. If you can’t find it, you can replace the Thai basil with regular basil and add a few mint leaves to the mix as well. It’s not the same, but it will still be delicious.

Making the Thai basil chicken

Once you’ve chopped all your ingredients, making the Thai basil is super quick and easy. It is prepared in a wok, but you can also use a skillet for this. For the green beans, you can prepare them in the wok, but I do like to precook those briefly. I find they stay quite firm if you don’t and I don’t like my green beans to be too crunchy.

There is not a whole lot of vegetables in this dish, so you can serve it with some added green salad to it and instead of the regular rice you could eat it with cauliflower rice. Always a great way to add more veggies to your food.

Most of the flavors of the Thai chicken dish come from the condiments you use. They will give you that typical and delicious Thai feeling.
