Tenerife may not be a very big island, but you can certainly eat good food there! So today I am going to list my 10 favorite restaurants in Tenerife. Of course, we didn’t get to try all the restaurants in the time we were in Tenerife, but do you have any tips that we shouldn’t miss? Leave them in the comments.
By the way, we rented a car because it is much harder to explore the island without one. Highly recommended. I will talk about the sights in a future post.
Restaurants on Tenerife
In terms of type of restaurants on tenerife; you will find something for everyone here. From simple to Michelin star. From local to international cuisine. From breakfast to dinner only.
All restaurants in Tenerife mentioned below were open in June 2021. As things change faster than the speed of light, it’s always a good idea to check the restaurant’s website before you go and call them if you need to. It’s always better than standing in front of a closed door.
Mokelino – Los Cristianos
Mokelino is located on the boulevard in Los Cristianos. It’s a tapas and cocktail bar. A great place where we spent our first night in Tenerife. Is the food fantastic? No, maybe not. It’s good food, though very large portions, but the atmosphere is good. There was live music when we ate there. To be honest, that’s not an immediate plus for me because there’s always so much noise when you’re trying to have a conversation.
But the service was very nice and the cocktails were delicious. Try the strawberry sangria. Mokelino is located on the boulevard in Los Cristianos.
La Navaja – Adeje
Update: Unfortunately La Navaja is permanently closed.
La Navaja is located in a place you might not expect: on top of a shopping center. Doesn’t sound very interesting, but the restaurant overlooks a huge banana plantation (Tenerife’s biggest export product) and the sea. So it is a good idea to sit here and have a drink after an afternoon of shopping.
But that doesn’t do justice to the cuisine, because you can have a great lunch or dinner here. And do you like wine? Try the local white wine …
Also very tasty were the Iberico croquettes (which we would call bitterballen) and the cheesecake we had for dessert.
El Secreto de Chimiche – Chimiche
You drive to El Secreto de Chimiche and at some point you think; where on earth am I going? It’s remote and in an unexpected place on the road. Not a spot you would expect. There are two parking spaces upstairs, but a little hidden there are more if you drive down a bit after the restaurant.
We went here for lunch and were a little surprised at how chic the place is. Not in an unpleasant way, by the way, but the ambiance and the dishes themselves were truly Michelin-worthy. Not in terms of price, by the way, as we spent only 75 euros for a three-course dinner for two. Granted, that only included one glass of wine (because I still had to drive), but still a very affordable option if you want to eat well without spending a fortune.
The restaurant also offers dry-aged beef, which I unfortunately only saw after we had eaten. Otherwise, I probably would have indulged. You can also visit El Secreto de Chimiche as part of a gastronomic itinerary.
La Odisea – Garachico
La Odisea falls into the category of good food, but it is the location that makes this restaurant special. We went to Garachico mainly for the natural baths, but since we arrived at lunchtime, we settled down on the most cozy terrace. The food here is good and you have a great view of the cute little plaza here. Don’t expect any highlights, just a good lunch.
Kai – La Caleta
A wonderful restaurant is definitely Kai La Caleta in – you guessed it – Caleta.
We were given this tip by the marketing consultant at Ohasis boutique suites where we stayed for the week in Tenerife and it was a very good one.
Kai La Caleta is a restaurant where you will find a mixture of Peruvian cuisine and Japanese techniques. It may sound a bit crazy, but the result is really delicious. You’ll find great sushi, but also dishes like ceviche. We took a selection of dishes. After all, you can easily share them. That’s better, because otherwise you won’t be able to try enough different dishes, and that’s what you really want here
Apart from the food, the restaurant is also very nice, so it is really worth spending an evening here. Of the restaurants in La Caleta, this is without a doubt one of the better ones.
El Molino Blanco – Costa Adeje
El Molino Blanco is one of those places that looks amazingly beautiful. That’s why we couldn’t resist eating here. There is a cute little white mill next to the restaurant and the whole place is decorated with a great atmosphere. Especially in the evening it comes alive with lots of pretty lights everywhere. The photo definitely does not do it justice!
It was very quiet when we arrived, but the food was delicious and the service very pleasant. Therefore, it was not to be missed in the list of restaurants in Tenerife. Among other things, we had grilled sea bass that had been cut in half in a strange way. And a little more salt would have been nice, but all in all we thought it was definitely worth a visit.
Google says it was recently closed, but it is actually open. Check the website to be sure!
Nebula – Costa Adeje
Nebula is a restaurant and cocktailbar in Adeje. It’s about half an hour away from where we stayed so we took the taxi. By the way, there’s another Nebula in Tenerife, in the capital. If it is part of a chain is not quite clear. (I don’t think so) but the food is delicious. Nice and fresh, good cocktails and good wine.
Dona Pata – Candelaria
Purely by chance we passed this little restaurant looking for breakfast. You don’t come here for the fancy food, but for the atmosphere and the great view over the water. We had a simple baguette with delicious Serano ham. Nothing wrong with that. But that view… that did it here more than anything else!
Rincon del pan – Bakery in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Looking for a nice crispy croissant or chocolate bun and a good cup of coffee? Then Rincon del pan is the place to go if you are in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It’s a bit like Delifrance (French chain here in the Netherlands) but with less emphasis on French things. Great place for a nice breakfast. We tried a selection of things because yes, choosing is obviously not the easiest thing. Haha…. And it was all delicious!
XL La Casa del Mojito – Los Cristianos
We finish the series of restaurants with one that we visited on the very last night. Namely the cocktail bar XL Mojito. It is located on the boulevard on the first floor. This means that you have a great view over the sea while sipping your cocktail. I had a mojito with chocolate and banana and Laura had a frozen strawberry daiquiri. Are you a Mojito fan? Then this is a must, because I’ve never seen so many mojitos together!
