The only recipe for guacamole you’ll ever need

Perfect for dipping, adding to a pita bread or as part of a dish

Guacamole is so easy to make, but perfect for many different things. The basic ingredient of guacamole is avocado, of course, and because this green/brown fruit has a fairly neutral flavor, you can take your guacamole in any direction. Try it on a burger instead of mayonnaise, like in this chicken burger recipe, or use it to fill a wrap.

Of course, guacamole is also delicious on tortillas, in a nacho casserole, or in tacos, which is where most people know it from. What delicious recipe will you make this avocado dip for?

Making Your Own Guacamole: Super Easy!

Ok, let’s be honest; do you get your guacamole from the grocery store? Those super smooth, bright green unnatural looking guacamole? If you’ve tried this delicious and easy recipe you will never look back. There is nothing better than a homemade guacamole.

And this happens to be the best recipe you will ever find. How do you make it? Quite simply, by following the instructions in the recipe card. There are two ways to make it; you can mash it completely smooth or you can mash it with a fork and leave some chunks in the avocado mix. I always prefer the latter.

Ripe avocado

Of course, the key to a good guacamole is good avocados. And therein lies the biggest challenge. The so called ‘eat ripe’ varieties in the supermarket are often brown and overripe when you open them, but today I was lucky! They were beautiful, ripe, and delicious. Just what an avocado should be for a delicious guacamole.

After having had my share of bad luck with getting avocado, I do have a pretty good feeling of when I hit the jackpot or when I should leave them in the store. I gently feel the avocado and when there is a slight give that’s a good sign. The other trick is to break the stem of the avocado. If it’s brown underneath you might be looking at an over ripe specimen. If it’s still green you can put it in your basket. It’s no guarantee and I’ve had my share of rock hard and not ripe avocado’s or rotten ones. It’s all part of the game they say.

What goes into good guacamole?

Guacamole is typically one of those dishes where there are a lot of variations. I understand that, because you can easily follow your own preferences when you get started with this avocado dip. For me, the following ingredients are a must:

  • Avocado
  • 1 red pepper
  • lime juice
  • tomato
  • Coriander
  • small red onion

What do you eat with guacamole?

When I serve it, I use tortilla chips or different vegetables to dip it in. It doesn’t have to be complicated! Just make sure you eat it right away, because the discoloration doesn’t make it any more appetizing. At least not visually. I use lime juice, so it’s not like the avocados will discolor right away, but it will happen pretty quickly after a while.

How long does guacamole keep?

Not long. The best thing is to make it fresh and serve it immediately. It takes about ten minutes at the most to make, so there really is no reason not to make it right before serving. Fresh is best.

Is guacamole healthy?

Avocado is. It contains many vitamins (including vitamins C, B6, and E), minerals, and lots of fiber. Avocado is also high in unsaturated fat, making it a healthy choice. Just be careful not to overdo it, as it is still fat. But it certainly fits into a healthy diet. Plus the other ingredients you add to the guacamole are all healthy as well. So no reason not to eat it.

How do I keep the avocado green?

Every avocado will eventually turn brown. There are a few things you can do to make it last longer. One trick is to put an avocado stone in the guacamole until you’re ready to serve. Lime will also help keep the avocado green longer. I also heard someone say that you should cook the avocado to keep it from browning, but I haven’t tried that yet. Just eat it quickly is the best advice.

How many avocados can you eat in a day?

One avocado is quite filling because of its fiber and fat content. It also has a neutral taste, which makes it easy to incorporate into all kinds of dishes. The official recommendation is to eat not more than half an avocado a day.

Is guacamole low in carbohydrates?

Yes, guacamole fits well into a low-carb diet or keto diet.

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe tomato cut into little pieces
  • 3 avocado’s
  • 1 small red onion chopped very finely
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • juice of 1 large lime
  • handful coriander chopped, plus a few extra
  • tortilla chips to dip and eat away

How to make guacamole

  1. Make sure you cut the tomato really very finely and to a pulp on a board. Place into a bowl. Cut the avocado's in half and scoop out the stones. Keep one of the stones and scoop out the flesh with a spoon.
  2. Put all the other ingredients also in the bowl and mash it all together roughly. It’s ok to have some chunks. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. If you don't eat it straight away keep the stone in the bowl, as that will prevent the avocado going brown.
  4. Before serving sprinkle with the coriander leaves and eat away!
