This Aperol Spritz recipe will do really well for a hot summer day but is also a great choice for a Christmas drink that is just slightly different. Or serve it for New Years. Happy Hour. Whatever other occasion you want to use it!
Aperol Spritz Recipe
The first time I had this cheerful orange drink was in Northern Italy. I’ll never forget it. We were sitting in the most beautiful square in Siena, it was a balmy warm evening and the Aperol Spritz was the perfect accompaniment. I have been a fan of this drink ever since, a drink that used to be associated with winter sports or holidays in other countries. It might not be your regular Christmas drink but I say why not? It is delicious and you can switch the sparkly bits to whatever you like. Here I used a dry prosecco which is delicious with the slightly bitter flavor of the aperol itself. You could also mix it with champagne if you’re a lover of champagne or add a splash of club soda.
I have to say I am definitely not a fan of champagne, but you could make me really happy with some aperol spritzes instead.
Easy to make
I’ve shared my favorite recipe for a mulled wine recently which is absolutely not comparable to this Aperol Spritz recipe but both are pretty festive if you ask me. I think this is a perfect aperol spritz and you can enjoy it with some light snack for Newyears as I think it is the perfect refreshing drink. That said this classic Italian cocktail is of course also absolutely perfect for hot summer nights. And even better when served with something cheesy like these Brazilian cheese puffs.
You don’t need a cocktail shaker to make the Aperol Spritz. You just pour everything into a nice glass. I like to have a round glass for this drink. I went for a large wine glass here. I think it’s part of the look, but of course it’s not necessary. Whatever you like. The rosemary twig is optional, but it just looks so nice. You can also put a fresh orange slice in the glass or just serve it with a straw. It’s a pretty simple drink to make.

While it looks fabulous for Christmas it is also summer in a glass. One of my favorite drinks!
